Orion’s Belt: spiritual meaning

What is the spiritual meaning of Orion’s Belt?

Introduction

We live in a vast and expanding universe that is filled with galaxies, stars, and planets that we will probably never even discover in our lifetime or the lifetimes of our great great great-grandchildren.

Even though that might be the case, there are still way more than plenty of stars out in space that we can see with modern technology that we’ve known about for years and are still learning new things about.

The constellation known as Orion’s Belt is one of these things.

If you can remember way back to your elementary school days you would remember that constellations are specific groupings of stars out in space that collectively make a sort of “connect the dots” image like the Big Dipper and the Little Dipper being the more well-known examples of constellations.

Constellations Tell Stories

Constellations, these groupings of stars that make an image are used by astrologists today to help them discover new stars, keep a lookout for meteor showers, and name both the new stars and meteor showers.

However, that obviously hasn’t always been the purpose and reason for these constellations.

They’ve been around longer than we humans have, we just happened to be the ones that named them.

Ancient civilizations like the Greeks believed that these constellations like Orion’s Belt told stories and legends of the universe itself and held the knowledge of future events within their designs, meant to be a foreboding warning to human civilizations of coming troubles and even the end of the world itself.

So, knowing just how important constellations have been made to be, we decided it was time to take a look at one of the more well-known constellations, specifically Orion’s Belt, and see whether or not this particular grouping of stars has its own story to tell and if there are any spiritual meanings that we should be made aware of.

The constellation that is known as Orion’s Belt has a few different names that you might know it by if you’ve never heard it called Orion’s Belt:

  • Belt of Orion
  • The Three Kings
  • The Three Sisters
  • Three Marys
  • Frigg’s Distaff
  • The Weighing Beam

It is made up and drawn out together by three collective stars that are named Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka.

These three stars (two of which are actually supergiants) are fairly easy to distinguish in the night sky because they create a fairly straight and linear line of bright stars.

Orion’s Belt, which is made up of these three stars, is a part of a larger constellation known as Orion.

If you are looking up at the night sky wanting to find the larger constellation of Orion, your best chance to find it would be to find Orion’s Belt first.

The Spiritual Meaning of Orion’s Belt

This constellation has held many meanings and has been a great symbol through many of history’s ancient civilizations.

In ancient Egypt, it was believed that Orion’s Belt was the constellation symbol of Osiris and that they were reflected by the three great pyramids meant to symbolize and be used as a gateway for the Egyptian Pharaohs to cross from the mortal life into the afterlife.

The constellations of stars are believed to tell stories and legends of old and to hold spiritual messages and warnings for those that look up and see them and connect with them

  • Spiritual Rebirth and Resurrection

Orion’s Belt brings a first message of experiencing spiritual rebirth and resurrection.

There is just something awe-inspiring whenever we look up to the stars, Orion’s Belt has a way of connecting to a person’s spirit and urging it to be renewed.

You may have allowed your spirit to diminish and fade due to stresses, anxieties, or other life struggles that have slowly broken down your spirit.

This constellation serves as a constant reminder to those with dying spirits that you can always start over again and allow your spirit to be reawakened.

  • Encouragement to Strengthen Yourself

Greeks believed that Orion was the son of Poseidon, the god of the seas.

Orion was a mighty and strong hunter in their culture.

Whenever they looked up and saw Orion’s Belt they would be reminded of Orion’s great strength and would seek it for themselves.

Meaning that whenever you are feeling weak and drained of your strength, look up and find the constellation of Orion’s Belt.

It will hold encouragement from the universe itself to flex those weak and drained parts of yourself and allow yourself to be strengthened to keep moving forward.

  • People Born Under Orion’s Belt are Highly Intelligent

It was believed and still is today that babies that are born under certain constellations would grow up to have certain blessings or gifts and abilities in life that were bestowed on them from the constellation of their birth.

For the babies that were/are born underneath the constellation of Orion’s Belt, it is believed that these babies will grow up to become knowledgeable people that are full of wisdom.

The knowledge they are gifted with is not only of things in our physical world but spiritual knowledge of things within the spiritual realm as well.

  • Position Your Life Better

The three bright stars of Orion’s Belt are almost perfectly lined up in a straight line and their positioning has never shifted out of line for the thousands of years they’ve been in orbit even though they are lightyears away.

Positioning is everything, without it the constellation wouldn’t exist because the stars wouldn’t be in the right place and the right setup.

The same can be said of our lives.

If we don’t position and set ourselves up for success then we will set ourselves up for failure.

Bottom Line

The constellations of our galaxy and everywhere else in our universe hold such meaningful messages for us and our lives, we just need to be able to take a minute to look up and contemplate what those messages might mean for our lives.
