What is the spiritual meaning of déjà vu?
This is a somewhat old throwback, but did you ever watch the very first Matrix movie with Keanu Reeves as Neo?
There is a scene in that movie where he sees a black cat walk across a hall, and then just a few seconds later, he sees that same exact catwalk the same exact way across the same hall.
That strange sensation of feeling like you have seen or experienced the exact same thing before is called Déjà vu.
It’s generally known to be an unsettling or unpleasant feeling and sensation if you’ve ever experienced it before.
However, as unsettling or unpleasant as the sensation of déjà vu can be, it’s probably not much of a stretch to guess that we have all at the very least wondered if the feeling of déjà vu holds any deeper and spiritual meanings beyond that strange, unpleasant confusion that normally comes with déjà vu.
Before we get to that, let’s get a better understanding of what déjà vu is first.
Medically speaking, about 60 to 80 percent of people have experienced déjà vu at least once in their life.
It’s believed that the sensation of déjà vu is connected to the brain’s temporal lobe (where your brain makes and keeps your memories).
Those that have medically studied this phenomenon have said that déjà vu could very well be connected to epileptic seizures or some other type of electrical malfunction that occurs within a person’s brain.
It is interesting to note that the researchers mentioned in the above link report that they had patients that experienced déjà vu also experienced and suffered a temporal lobe epilepsy episode as if it was their brain warning them of the incoming epilepsy episode…
Because the phenomenon of déjà vu is believed to be directly linked to the temporal lobe in the brain that is responsible for your short-term and long-term memory, it is highly possible that when you experience déjà vu, you are actually experiencing a brief yet unsettling sensation of mismatching memories that your brain can’t make sense of.
There is still so much we don’t know about déjà vu scientifically speaking, but what about spiritually?
Potential reasons and spiritual meanings for why you have experienced déjà vu:
- A moment where someone experiences a connection to a past life event.
This is one of the more well-known reasonings and explanations for why people might experience the sensation of déjà vu.
It is quite possible that in that moment of déjà vu, your spirit or soul is having an instant recollection of an event that you experienced in a past life, and that unsettling or unpleasant feeling that comes with déjà vu is your current life trying to process something nearly impossible to comprehend or make sense of at the moment.
- Your soul is trying to reassure you of your path.
Have you recently begun making changes in your life that you’ve put off for far too long?

After you began making these much-needed changes, did you experience the sensation of déjà vu?
Well, if you answered yes to both of those questions, you might be happy to find out that feeling déjà vu after instating good and positive changes in your life is your soul telling you that you are doing something right.
You are on the right path in life that you need to be taking currently, your soul is trying to tell you to keep at it and don’t give up quite yet.
- You have a brief instant of matching with someone else’s soul.
Whether or not you believe that there is another person in this world that is your soul mate, the yin to your yang, humans are spiritual beings that are fully capable of having spiritual interactions.
When you experience déjà vu, you very well could be having a brief but beautiful spiritual moment where your soul connects with and matches the frequency of another soul at that exact moment in time.
This intense matching of spiritual frequencies leaves your body and mind reeling and left with the sensation of déjà vu because your soul and another soul just experienced a brief yet intense connection.
- You are experiencing the physical manifestation and fulfillment of a clairvoyant dream.
Have you ever had a dream where you clocked in at a new job for the first time at a completely different company than where you currently work? You probably woke up and thought it was just a weird work dream that meant nothing.

But then either a few months later or even years later, you end up clocked in at this new job for the first time with this company that you had a dream about weeks, months, or years ago.
It can be freaky the first few times you experience this, but if you do experience these clairvoyant dreams about something that later on is manifested in the physical world, you should be considered blessed with an incredible gift.
While this is something that clarity only comes after the dream has been fulfilled through its manifestation in the physical world…
It’ll definitely make you pay more attention to the dreams you have; it might not be a bad idea to start keeping a dream journal. So you can look back through your dreams later on in case any of them ever do manifest fully in your life.
In conclusion, déjà vu is a very mysterious phenomenon that a large portion of people has experienced at least once in their life.
The question is, why do we experience it, or what about the people that have multiple recollections of experiencing déjà vu?
While it might be explained away as a potential temporal lobe seizure (make an appointment with your doctor if you’re worried about that one), déjà vu may have deeper meanings.
It’s incredible to think that experiencing déjà vu could mean we are connecting and matching the spiritual frequency of another human being or experiencing the manifestation of a clairvoyant dream.
